Family Fund Honors Parents’ Heart For Community

January 20, 2022

The Community Giving Foundation: Danville is pleased to announce the creation of a new donor advised fund to support the Danville community. The Helen “Sis” Graham Hause and William A. Hause Fund was created by the Hause children and their families as a way to honor their parents and the community they love. The fund will provide grants for charitable purposes in Montour County, PA and surrounding communities, ensuring the Hause legacy of giving will live on forever.

“Our parents were born, raised, and lived their entire lives in Danville, PA. Inspired by the history and the people of their hometown, they spent many years giving back to the community they love. We are honored to establish this fund in their name through the Foundation, ensuring our parents’ commitment to causes dear to their hearts will benefit Danville in perpetuity,” write the Hause children.

Anyone who knows the Hause family knows of their tireless work in the Danville community and the many organizations they championed. Though nearly impossible to list them all, beneficiaries of their work include the Thomas Beaver Library, the Montgomery House, the Danville Area Community Center, and St. Joseph’s Catholic Church. A friend of the Hause family, Jean Knouse shared these thoughts about their legacy in the Danville area:

“Sis and Bill performed so many kindnesses in their community. While Sis is appropriately recognized as a community historian and one of the founders of the Iron Heritage Festival – and the resulting pride that was generated in the community – Bill was generally a “silent” partner in her endeavors. The Iron Heritage Festival was the exception, and I often tell people that Bill’s performance in the very first IHF Cemetery Tour was award-winning. It was unusual for him to step into the spotlight, but when we “dragged” him there, he excelled.”

Mrs. Knouse continues, “It is not surprising that the beneficiaries of the Helen “Sis” Graham Hause and William A. Hause Fund will be decided on an annual basis. It is so representative of Sis and Bill that their thoughtful children would want to provide the opportunity to help whatever organizations need assistance to continue to serve the community. Family, church, school, and the greater Danville community have all benefitted from the time, talent, and treasure of the Hause family. Now that benefit will last forever.”

The Helen “Sis” Graham Hause and William A. Hause Fund will begin granting to community organizations this year. Contributions can be made to the fund online here, or mail to the Community Giving Foundation, Attn: Hause Fund, 725 West Front Street, Berwick PA 18603.
