The Community Giving Foundation: Berwick is pleased to announce the creation of a new designated fund in memory of Lisa Canouse, a dedicated wife and mother who impacted the lives of many children in the Berwick Area School District through her passion and big heart. Though born in Philadelphia, Lisa fell in love with the Berwick community after marrying her husband, Barry, and always considered the area home. When her three children were grown, she began to work in the Berwick Area School District, where she continued to show a motherly love by supporting the children at the school.
“Lisa reserved the softest spot in her heart for children with special needs in the Berwick area. After her passing, we knew establishing a fund at the Foundation would be a great way to honor her legacy in the community and her passion for kids in the Berwick Area School District,” explained Barry Canouse.
Following Lisa’s heart to give to and care for the children of the Berwick area, the Lisa’s Kids Designated Fund was established to brighten the lives of children with special needs. The Fund will provide charitable grants to the Berwick Area School District to support life skills students, K-12, who demonstrate financial need for necessities that help them thrive as individuals.
“Mrs. Canouse impacted many students throughout her employment at the Berwick Area School District. Her positive demeanor and unending love for her students is deeply cherished. Mrs. Canouse had the ability to see each student’s strengths. She has touched so many lives and is deeply missed. Her memory will live on through these grants,” explained Pamela Hegland, Director of Special Education and Student Services at the Berwick Area School District.
