“I wanted to join the Selinsgrove Board because I am always looking for ways to give back to the Selinsgrove area. We live in a close-knit community, like so many other towns in our valley. I have been blessed to both live and raise my family in Selinsgrove. This opportunity allows me to contribute to the community that has given me so much and that I am proud to call my home.”

Mr. Malcolm Derk
Mr. Derk supports the president’s office of Susquehanna University in advancing institutional priorities, government affairs, and community engagement as the Interim Chief of Staff and Director of Grants & Foundation Relations. As director of grants, he works closely with faculty and staff to leverage external funds to support student-faculty research and institutional priorities. The successful grants portfolio includes funding from the National Science Foundation, National Endowment for the Humanities, U.S. Department of Education, U.S. Department of Justice, and foundation partners. Prior to joining the team at Susquehanna, Mr. Derk served ten years as an elected county commissioner in Snyder County, PA, providing executive and legislative leadership in managing the county budget and personnel.

He serves on the board of directors for the Greater Susquehanna Valley Chamber of Commerce, where he chairs the Government Affairs Committee. He is a member of the Selinsgrove Rotary. He and his wife live in Freeburg with their two children.

He consistently collaborates with school district personnel to elicit feedback from various stakeholders within the school district community. Community awareness is a vital component of an educational leader who looks to enhance the opportunities afforded to students while also leading the way for continued community development. As an educator who strives to maximize the potential of all, Dr. Jankowski looks forward to his role as a board member within the Foundation.

“As a newly appointed Community Giving Foundation: Selinsgrove board member, I am excited to join a team which focuses on enhancing the opportunities for the Selinsgrove community.”
