Berwick Theater Receives 2019 Innovation & Collaboration Grant

June 5, 2019

The Berwick Health and Wellness Fund (BHWF) recently presented the 2019 recipient of the Innovation & Collaboration Grant, a vehicle to enable continued growth and strengthening of the BHWF service area on a broad scale. Through this opportunity, BHWF provides one grant of $50,000 to fund a new project that provides an opportunity to transform an aspect of community health and wellness. This grant award supports implementation of emerging ideas, initiatives and/or new collaborations that can substantially impact or provide measurable progress toward solving a significant challenge related to health and wellness in our community.

This year’s grant award was presented to the Berwick Theater and Center for Community Arts (BTCCA) during the Central Susquehanna Community Foundation’s Berwick Area luncheon on May 31, 2019, at Rolling Pines Golf Course in Berwick.

Berwick Theater and Center for Community Arts plans to use the grant funding for their Community Arts Stage Project. The project will enhance the live performance area at the Berwick Theater to accommodate local performance artists and collaborate with live bands, theaters, school performances, lectures, and community events.

“The arts influence the health of a community and, with the generous support of the Berwick Health and Wellness Fund, the BTCCA can create an artistic space to be used and enjoyed by all ages in our area. We are thrilled to be given this opportunity to transform the Berwick Theater into a true Center for the Community Arts,” explains Laura Knorr, BTCCA executive director.

The Berwick Health and Wellness Fund is the original and largest fund of the Central Susquehanna Community Foundation. Its purpose is to improve the health and welfare of residents and communities of eastern Columbia and western Luzerne Counties. For more information, visit csgiving.org.
