Last week, Community Giving Foundation staff joined fellow community leaders, nonprofits, and Amazon representatives at the Bloomsburg Fairgrounds to celebrate community impact through the Amazon Northeastern Pennsylvania Community Fund. The Foundation was honored to receive a grant through this fund to support our Youth in Philanthropy program, encouraging youth-led grantmaking and philanthropy education for high school students across the region.
During the event, Kara Seesholtz (Foundation CEO) was invited to share remarks on the Foundation’s relationship with Amazon and the ways we embrace our role to listen, connect, and move important ideas into action. “Our role at Community Giving Foundation is pretty simple—we connect people, ideas, and resources to help make good things happen in our communities. Over the past two years, we’ve had the opportunity to work alongside Amazon to help connect their generosity to local nonprofits in the Berwick area. Tonight is a great example of these connections and the organizations making a real difference across our region.”
The Foundation was thrilled to help share the exciting news of a $290,000 investment by Amazon to support a hunger mapping initiative in Columbia and Montour Counties, led by our partners at the Central PA Food Bank. Our work convening and connecting nonprofit leaders, plus our impact data work utilizing area needs assessments, has consistently highlighted food insecurity as a regional need. We were honored to bring Amazon into the conversation, connecting partners to explore an opportunity that will have major impact for our communities.
