Estate Gift Meets Top Needs in Montour County

September 15, 2025

Community Giving Foundation: Danville is excited to announce inaugural grants totaling $52,599 from the Jack and Helen Wanich Fund. The fund was established last year through a sizeable estate gift by two incredibly generous donors who wanted to meet needs in Montour County. Created under the Foundation’s Danville affiliate, the local Danville board has the responsibility and privilege of making funding decisions to ensure the Wanich’s legacy is rooted in Montour County’s needs and maximizes local impact.

Using area needs assessments and nonprofit site visits, the Foundation identified three top needs in Montour County—affordable housing, childcare, and mental health. Foundation staff and Danville board members worked together to select grant recipients whose missions and programs continue to meet these priority needs in Montour County, driving community change.

2025 Grant Recipients

  • AGAPE Love from Above to Our Community—affordable housing and mental health programs, $10,227.58
  • Central Susquehanna Opportunities, Inc.—affordable housing and mental health programs, $10,227.58
  • Danville Area Community Center—childcare and mental health programs, $13,149.75
  • Danville Child Development Center—childcare programs, $8,766.50
  • The Gate House—affordable housing and mental health, $10,227.58

Recipients were recognized at the Foundation’s regional grant impact celebration event. Megan Bair of Central Susquehanna Opportunities shared how important this kind of grantmaking is for local organizations. “This funding is unique. As a community action agency, we talk with a lot of our partners about the ways needs are interconnected. To get a call that we were receiving funding for housing and mental health is truly a gift. Because we know that people are not going to be able to retain housing, even if we help them get into an apartment, if their mental health is not well… It gives me hope to see the changes that are coming, the partnerships that are truly being built, the silos that are being torn down. This grant is a great demonstration of that, and I’m looking forward to many more great things together.”
