Legacy of Art Educator Remembered Through New Fund

December 19, 2023

Community Giving Foundation is pleased to announce a new fund supporting students in the Warrior Run School District in memory of former art teacher Marlin K. Troutman.

A teacher, an artist, a storyteller—Mr. Troutman entertained people. After receiving degrees in art education and painting from Penn State, he taught art to generations of students at Warrior Run High School for 38 years. He was also involved in other school activities, including time as the assistant wrestling coach, theatre director and set designer, and faculty advisor for the high school yearbook. Mr. Troutman brought modern art and exhibitions to the Watsontown area, holding interactive art displays and featuring the artwork of his talented students. He specialized in photography, teaching students both camera and darkroom skills. Through his tenure at Warrior Run, he was involved in over 140 plays, musicals, and exhibitions.

Mr. Troutman was a tremendous asset to the Watsontown and surrounding community, serving in organizations like the Lion’s Club International (where he received the Melvin Jones Fellowship Award), the Society of American Magicians, and as a participant in Civil War re-enactments with the Pennsylvania 53rd Division. Mr. Troutman was loved by his family, who established the Marlin K. Troutman Memorial Arts Award Fund to memorialize his dedication to the art community and his legacy at Warrior Run.

“Dad was an art educator for 38 years. He touched the lives of everyone he met, and he encouraged all students to try their hand in the arts. Presenting this award in his honor continues his passion to ‘pass forward the ability to create art’,” expressed the Troutman Family.
