Sunbury Foundation Awards 2020 Grants

The Sunbury Area Community Foundation recently awarded over $183,000 to local nonprofits. The awards were granted through the following funds: Sunbury Area Health Fund, Sunbury Area Community Foundation Pass-Through Fund, Mary E. and J. Guy Lesher Fund, C. Preston and Kathryn S. Geist Endowment Fund, Clyde H. Jacobs Fund, The J. Donald Steele, Jr. and Joanne K. Steele Fund, Deutsch Family Fund for Geisinger Nurses, Gladys C. Dagle Fund, Gloria Faylor Karchner Healthcare Fund, The Mertz Fund, Mertz Family Memorial Fund, Dagle Family Fund, and Jesse and Maxine Woodring Donor Advised Fund.

The Foundation focused its funding decisions on programs that target children’s health, community health and wellness, early childhood, issues regarding the working poor, and coronary care. Grant recipients include:

  • A Community Clinic – Operation Cover the Uninsured, $49,560
  • Birthright of Sunbury, Inc. – Family Assistance for Crib Mattresses, $1,200
  • Birthright of Sunbury, Inc. – Family Assistance for Diapers and Infant Formula, $6,000
  • Birthright of Sunbury, Inc. – Organization Support, $800
  • Central Pennsylvania Food Bank – Combating Childhood Hunger in the Sunbury Region, $6,000
  • Central Susquehanna Community Foundation – Disaster Relief Fund, $26,200
  • Central Susquehanna Sight Services, Inc. – 2020/2021 Prevention of Blindness Programming, Selinsgrove, $7,500
  • Cherished Cats Rescue Alliance – Organization Support, $800
  • Degenstein Community Library – Early Childhood Education: Tumblebooks & Imagination Library, $3,000
  • DIG Furniture Bank – DIG’s Good Night’s Sleep Fund and Startup Support, $2,500
  • Evangelical Community Hospital – Cardiac Rehabilitation for the Underserved, $5,000
  • Gaudenzia, Inc. – Automatic External Defibrillator, $1,700
  • Geisinger Health System Foundation – Support of Geisinger Nurses, $3,100
  • Greater Susquehanna Valley YMCA – Children’s Program Financial Assistance, $11,000
  • Lackawanna College – Early Childhood Associate Degree Program at Sunbury Center, $1,500
  • Mostly Mutts – Organization Support, $300
  • Northumberland County Historical Society – Organization Support, $1,000
  • Regional Engagement Center (REC) – Summer 2020 REC Support Program and Selinsgrove Area Mobile Pantry, $2,000
  • Selinsgrove Area Meals on Wheels – Organization Support, $200
  • Setebaid Services, Inc. – Camp Setebaid and the HDYC 2021 Campership, $3,000
  • Shape of Justice – Sunbury Area Menstrual Products, $1,600
  • Spreading Antlers Children’s Foundation – Swim Program, $15,000
  • Sunbury Kiwanis Club – Playground Fund, $3,000
  • Sunbury’s Revitalization – Albright Center, $4,000
  • Susquehanna River Valley Dental Health Clinic – 2021 Project Oral Health Care for the Underinsured and Uninsured, $20,200
  • Susquehanna Valley Law Enforcement – Camp Cadet, $100
  • The ReFuge – Organization Support, $2,000
  • The Salvation Army – Seasonal Assistance Program, $5,000

The Sunbury Area Community Foundation is an affiliate of the Central Susquehanna Community Foundation, which helps administer Sunbury’s grant and scholarship investments. Their mission is helping to meet a multitude of charitable needs in the Sunbury region.
